Among the final five selections in the first round for the second season in a row, the Baltimore Ravens headed into the 2021 NFL draft with two of the five.
The Indianapolis Colts are usually one of the best teams in the draft each year. Chris Ballard and Ed Dodds are two of the best in the business at finding value and addressing it in the draft. Entering the draft, Indianapolis had needs at left tackle, receiver, tight end, pass-rusher, cornerback, and defensive line.
The New York Giants surprised many during the 2021 NFL draft by orchestrating multiple trades down. “Trader Dave” Gettleman, notoriously known actually for never moving back in drafts did so in each of the first two rounds.
General Manager Rick Spielman, head coach Mike Zimmer, and the Minnesota Vikings stuck to a trusted formula during the 2021 NFL draft. They beefed up the trenches on both sides of the ball, added depth at key positions, and may even have found their quarterback of the future.
The Philadelphia Eagles came into the draft with 11 picks and ended with nine, while also picking up a fifth-rounder for 2022. Overall, they filled a lot of positions of need, while getting some great value picks and depth for the roster. They added talent that could make an immediate impact and players who will be solid for the future if they can tap into their potential.
After losing some key pieces in their 2020 postseason run, including Adoree Jackson, Malcolm Butler, Corey Davis, and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, the Tennessee Titans came into this year’s draft with some holes to fill. The Titans addressed a lot of their needs in this draft but failed to address others.
It was a draft filled with ups and downs for the Cincinnati Bengals and one that had some controversy to it. In the later rounds, the Bengals took some hit or miss prospects and even a kicker but overall had a really nice draft.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians and general manager Jason Licht didn’t have many needs entering the 2021 NFL Draft. Returning all 22 starters from last season’s Super Bowl win gave Arians and Licht some flexibility.
Coming into the 2021 NFL Draft, the New York Jets had holes at just about every position on the roster. With Sam Darnold traded to the Carolina Panthers before the draft, New York desperately needed a quarterback and basically every other offensive skill position. While the top of their draft was efficient in providing help for Wilson for his first year in the league.
The New Orleans Saints came into the 2021 NFL Draft with a couple of needs spread out. They didn’t have anything to gaping to address and ended up going best player available a couple of times. In the first round, the Saints took athletic freak Payton Turner who will get to learn behind Cameron Jordan for a year or two and will look to develop into a star pass-rusher. The Saints were also fairly busy in the trade market over the weekend and traded up multiple times on days two and three.
Selecting 30th overall after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game, the Buffalo Bills headed into the 2021 NFL Draft with needs at edge, cornerback, running back, and wide receiver.
Coming into this offseason, the Dallas Cowboys had to improve their defense. In the 2021 NFL Draft, they did just that. The Cowboys used eight of their 11 selections, and their first six picks on the defensive side of the ball.
