Tied for the worst record in baseball, the Baltimore Orioles did have a few bright spots. Let’s take a look at their 2021 season.
The Halos have been blessed with some of the biggest names in the sport during their first half-century plus. Hence, the exercise of examining the Los Angeles, Anaheim, California Angels all-time 26-man roster.
The Toronto Blue Jays were projected to be contenders as recently as a few seasons ago. No one thought that the projection would be the 2021 season. In a powerhouse division that includes the Tampa Bay Rays, New York Yankees, and the Boston Red Sox, the Jays more than held their own. Toronto went 91-71 and even held first place in the AL East at times.
Success in any sport is largely dominated by momentum. That was the storyline that came out of the ALCS as the Houston Astros won three in a row to complete a comeback series win over the Boston Red Sox.
Prior to the beginning of the season, the Yankees were projected to be one of the best teams in baseball. Similar to the past few years, they were overhyped and fell to the Boston Red Sox in the American League Wild Card Game.
The St. Louis Cardinals were a team that largely underwhelmed this season. However, they got hot in mid-September and propelled themselves into a Wild Card berth with a 17-game winning streak.
The Washington Nationals had an extremely disappointing season, two years removed from winning their first World Series. There were expectations that they would be right back in the running to contend for the National League East title, but the opposite happened.
The Cubs entered the season with a decent chance of making the playoffs but an even better chance of a collapse. The wrong outcome came to fruition.
On the surface, the Tampa Bay Rays appear to have failed in 2021. A lot of old-school baseball minds have been pumping their fists and making sure to let the world know that “nerds” don’t win baseball games.
The Cleveland Indians were 80-82 this season. It was the first time they have been under .500 since 2012. Let’s take a look back at how 2021 went down for the Indians.
The San Diego Padres entered 2021 with astronomically high expectations, and rightfully so. The team entered the season with rising superstar Fernando Tatis Jr., complemented by established veterans like Manny Machado, Tommy Pham and Yu Darvish.
The Miami Marlins wound up having a disappointing 2021 season after making the expanded 2020 postseason. The hitting was the biggest fallout, while the pitching was pretty solid.
