Things are going to be tough for the Swiss in this year’s IIHF World Juniors tournament. Nonetheless, let’s take an in-depth look at what Team Switzerland could look like when they hit the ice.

In the World Juniors, Germany has been a team constantly in and out of the top division for the bulk of the last 20 years. When they take the ice today against Finland, it will be the third year in a row they have been in the main tournament.
Canada heads into the World Junior Tournament as one of the favorites to capture the gold medal once again. They will look to win the nation’s third since 2015. The team is looking to avenge their loss in the final game to the United States a year ago.

Last year, Austria unceremoniously went 0-4 in World Junior Round Robin play. This year, they are back via a get-out-of-jail-free card, that being a relegation freeze due to the ongoing COVID pandemic.
Looking at Finland’s finalized roster for the 2022 World Junior Championship, we find a few players returning from last year’s bronze medal team. However, they will be without Anton Lundell, who led the team in points in last year’s tournament.
Since 2010, no team in the World Juniors has won back-to-back gold medals. This year, the United States look to buck that trend north of the border.
Sweden is set to hit 10 years since their last World Juniors win if they don’t take gold this year. On top of having their absurd 54 game round-robin win streak snapped by the Russians last year, they also have only medaled just four times since their 2012 win.
