Looking Back
Vs. Real Salt Lake
Coming off of a disappointing loss, the Revolution bounce back with a 4-0 victory over Real Salt Lake. New England opened the floodgates early with a fourth minute goal from Center Midfielder Scotty Caldwell. Jay Heaps XI looked enthusiastic all the way through with hustle, hard tackles, and shots. Forward Kei Kamara headed one in just 14 minutes later for a 2-0 lead. They added again in the 34th minute with what could’ve been the most important goal of the season when Diego Fagundez opened his account. The final goal of the first half and the night came from Lee Nguyen in the 41st minute. From that point on the Revolution soared to a well deserved victory.
Vs. Columbus Crew
After the win against Salt Lake, New England kept their momentum with a 2-1 win over Columbus Crew. After losing to Crew just two games prior the Revolution allowed an early goal on a beautiful half volley by Ola Kamara that landed top bins for the 1-0 lead; but the Revolution bounced right back. On a beautiful build-up just five minutes later, Fagundez finished on an easy tap in to the level the score. Then Fagundez reminded us why he is so important to the team when he scored the go ahead goal just 10 minutes later. The Revolution held on to this one, but just barely as defender Andrew Farrell was booked with a red card in injury time.
Vs. New York Red Bulls
The momentum slowed a bit in this one as the Red Bulls stole one with a 2-1 victory. New England started this one off with a penalty kick goal by Nguyen after he was tripped up going one on one with the final defender in the 9th minute. The Revolution battled, but could only hold til the 47th minute when Goalkeeper Cody Cropper struggled with a cross which led to a Braley Wright-Phillips rebound goal. Then in the 74th minute the Red Bulls broke the deadlock with a Daniel Royer goal. Fagundez later had a chance to tie the game up, but New York Keeper Luis Robles made a fantastic diving save,
Vs. New York City FC
After the loss, the Revolution tied NYCFC 2-2. Just 15 minutes into the game Jack Harrison scored a goal on beautiful run and cross by David Villa, but this game went back and forth. Eight minutes later Kamara scored a header on a corner kick to level the field. Miguel Camargo separated the two teams again in the 74th minute on a wide open header. However New England kept battling and tied it up in the 86th with a Xavier Kouassi header.
Vs. Toronto FC
Aaaaand most recently, New England dominated Toronto with a 3-0 start to finish victory. In the 17th minute Benjamin Angoua scored his first goal as a member of the Revolution with a header to go ahead. After a few close misses by Toronto, Fagundez scored his fourth goal of the season with a beautiful strike that landed top left in the 64th. The Revolution sealed the deal in the 85th minute after a bit of luck when a Fagundez pop up bounced off the crossbar twice then into play for an easy Juan Agudelo header.
The Revolution sit in 7th place currently with a 5-5-5 record. Their next MLS match will be against the Chicago Fire on June 17th.
Looking Forward
The New England Revolution will play the Rochester Rhinos of the United States second tier USL in their first U.S. Open Cup match. The U.S. Open Cup has played three round so far, but 19 MLS team will join in for the Fourth Round. The Rochester Rhinos currently sit in 4th place in the USL with a 4-3-1 record. Wal Fall will be the player to watch in this one as he leads his team with three goals on the season. Other players to watch out for are Kenardo Forbes, Mike Garzi, and Bradley Kamden Fewo who all have two goals. The Rhinos are coming off a win against FC Cincinnati who sit one spot higher than them despite the win. This game should be interesting to see which players start and how many minutes they get. Jay Heaps will look to put this one away as early as he can, but these USL teams love any chance against an MLS opponent.
