The Carolina Energy used the momentum from their first season by signing guys including quarterback Steffen Colon, wide receiver Scooby Bryant, and defensive back Carlo Thomas.
From their first game against the South Carolina Predators, the Energy started their journey to Wheeling by blowing out their opponents left and right to a 5-0 record. Also, the Energy added two forfeits with a win against the Carolina Cowboyz and an away game against the Georgia Doom.
During the Cape Fear Heroes game, the referees were not aware of the schedule and time change, and the game was turned into a “fake” scrimmage. The Energy’s first round game against the Peach State Cats was also riddled with controversy with reports that the Cats suited up nine starters to the game, as well as the Energy skipping the game as opposed to forfeiting because they couldn’t secure the arena.
The Energy made an immediate change in their organization and their status from an unknown to a championship contender. In 2018, the Energy fell short of a championship game appearance by losing in the AAL Semifinals and after defeating the Carolina Havoc, they have their first opportunity to bring a championship to the Queen City.
This year, the Energy will face another undefeated team in the West Virginia Roughriders. This experienced team enters the championship game with a 11-0 record. The two teams last faced each other in the previous season with the Roughriders defeating the Energy on two separate occasions, including the 2018 AAL semifinal game.
The second American Arena League championship game will be played at the WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, WV this Saturday June 29 at 7 p.m. ET
