After a midweek loss in Canada, Los Angeles Football Club regained their form on Sunday afternoon, beating the Seattle Sounders 4-1 at the Banc of California. LAFC gained control of the game quickly as Seattle struggled missing key players like Chad Marshall and Will Bruin. LAFC finished with 59 percent of the possession in the game and more shots than Seattle.
LAFC got on the board early with Carlos Vela delivering a rocket right over the right shoulder of Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei. LAFC would not look back after that as Eduard Atuesta scored in the 39th minute to make it 2-0 headed into halftime. Coming out of the half, Seattle looked determined to get back in the game scoring in the 51st minute.
The Angelinos captain immediately responded in the 55th minute with his second goal of the game and tenth on the season. Christian Ramirez scored in the 61st to seal it as LAFC win by a final score of 4-1. Led by their captain, LAFC leads the MLS in goals scored with 25. Carlos Vela has been incredible so far this season.
Full Speed Ahead
Carlos Vela has come out of the gate with lightning speed. The early season favorite for MVP leads the MLS in both goals scored and assists. Last year, Josef Martinez of Atlanta United had five goals and zero assists by this same point in the season.
In 2017, Diego Valeri of the Portland Timbers won the MVP with a total of 23 goals and 11 assists. By this same time in 2017, Valeri had five goals and three assists. Vela is well on his way to winning his first MVP. If the season continues the way it has been, Vela will be shattering records and LAFC will be in prime position for a deep playoff run.
Could it be that Carlos Vela heard the comments made by former MLS player Hercules Gomez?

Interesting take, Herculez. Whatever the case, if there is a better Vela out there, the rest of the MLS won’t want to meet him.
