Cape Fear Heroes Have Best Chance of First Round Upset

The 2019 American Arena League playoffs are right around the corner, and it comes with exciting matchups all across the board. But who’s going to the final four? Will a team pull out a victory and surprise us? Well…yes.

The Cape Fear Heroes could very well take down the Carolina Havoc in the playoffs. This is slated to be the most competitve game in the round of the playoffs. Both of these teams are very, very good.

The Heroes have a solid record this season at 5-3. They’ve lost to the Georgia Doom, West Virginia Roughriders (9-0), and the Havoc already. But, the game against the Havoc came down to the final seconds with the score at 59-60.

The Heroes also, in a weird situation [which was a scrimmage or something along the line], beat the Energy on May 25. This team is really talented. A solid defensive corp has kept this team fighting, but it needs to step up against the Havoc’s rising offense led by quarterback Jesse Scroggins.

The offense can absolutely keep doing their thing, just amp it up a bit for the playoffs. The Havoc are sitting pretty at 7-1. The team hasn’t played very tough competition this season, facing the Jensen Beach Tigers, Carolina Aviators, Southern Steam, Carolina Predators, and Peach State Cats, where they averaged an expected 73 points offensively and 14 points given up defensively.

They’ve played higher-tier teams in the Energy, Doom, and Heroes as well, where they averaged 45 points offensively and gave up 48 points per game. Their young team is very intriguing and it’ll be fun to see how they handle the playoffs.

Both teams have a lot going for them. The Cape Fear Heroes are very battle tested and experienced. They just beat the Energy 22-6 in a shortened game, where the Havoc lost to them earlier in the season. They’ve been here before.

As for the Havoc, they’re coming off a championship season (back when they were the Atlanta Havoc in 2019). While the team is young, they’ve come into every game very confident, as they should.

At the end of the day, the Heroes vs. Havoc is going to be a shootout to the very end. This’ll be a fun watch.
