The Buffalo Bills traveled to Arlington, Tex., to face the Dallas Cowboys in the annual Thanksgiving Day game. It was the first time the Bills played on Thanksgiving Day in 25 years and the first time they won a Turkey Day tilt since 1975; they soundly defeated Dallas, 26-15, on Thursday night.
Dallas started the game with possession of the ball and put the first points of the game on the board in their opening drive when Dak Prescott connected with Jason Witten for the eight-yard touchdown.
Buffalo was unable to convert their opening drive into points. On their second drive, Josh Allen and former Cowboy Cole Beasley connected for a 25-yard pass to tie the game.
The next three possessions for Dallas were dismal as Prescott threw an interception on the first one, ended the second one on a strip sack, and saw the third one slip away when Brett Maher’s field goal was blocked.
In the drive that followed the fumble, Buffalo put another six on the board when John Brown passed to Devin Singletary for a 28-yard touchdown. The extra point went wide right but had the lead at halftime, 13-7.
Buffalo started the second half with possession of the ball and after just over four minutes of play, Stephen Hauschka put the first points of the half on the board with a 41-yard field goal kick, extending the lead to 16-7.
If Dallas’ opening drive was any indication of how the second half of the game would go for them, it appeared they were in trouble. Ezekiel Elliot fumbled the ball on the first play but was able to recover it. A few plays later, Prescott was sacked again, and then Maher missed another field goal attempt, this time from 47 yards out.
The Bills returned in their next drive to put yet another touchdown on the board as Allen rushed the ball 15 yards for the score and the 23-7 lead. The score would remain the same entering the final quarter of the game.
Buffalo scored on their first possession of the last quarter when they ended a 13-play drive with another Hauschka field goal kick, this time for 26 yards, extending the lead by three more, 26-7.
Dallas finally put more points on the board with four minutes left to go as Prescott connected with Blake Jarwin for a 10-yard touchdown and Witten took it in for the two-point conversion attempt, closing the margin to 11 points. This comeback was too little, too late as Buffalo closed out the game in their final drive and took the victory in Arlington on Thanksgiving.
The Cowboys are now 6-6 and continue to be in a close battle with the Eagles for first place in the struggling NFC East. The Bills, now 9-3, move into the top Wild Card spot after winning their third game in a row.
Dallas will travel to Chicago to face the Bears for a Thursday Night Football tilt in Week 14, while Buffalo faces Baltimore in a home game on Dec. 8.
