It was an exciting 2018 NFL Draft and season for Bills fans, and they continue to see their team improve their talent. First, the Bills moved all around the first round and ended up at seventh overall, the slot where they selected Josh Allen. They also moved up to the 16th pick to snag Tremaine Edmonds.
With the ninth pick in the 2019 draft, the Buffalo Bills selected Ed Oliver, a defensive tackle out of Houston.
Oliver’s ideal fit is a 3-technique in a 4-3 defense. He displays quickness off the snap and has tremendous hand technique, which helps him penetrate and cause chaos. Oliver can be an elite pass rusher from the interior and collapse the pocket for the opposing quarterback.
Adding Oliver to one of the top defenses can only make the unit stronger, giving McDermott his disruptive defensive tackle. He will be playing next to Star Lotulelei, and anchor who loves taking on double-teams and will allow Oliver to play to his strengths. Oliver breaking down the pocket will help defensive ends Jerry Hughes, Shaq Lawson, and Trent Murphy sack the quarterback as he moves.
