Late Thursday night, many Bills Mafia members were about to go to sleep. Then, a tweet from Ian Rapoport ran wild on Twitter.
Sources: The #Steelers are closing in on a deal to send star WR Antonio Brown to the Buffalo #Bills. There it is.

May people were excited and unable to fall asleep thinking of Antonio Brown wearing the Red, White, and Blue. Brown is arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL right now. He is able to put up unreal stats and has a game breaker mentality. He can turn a screen or short pass and take it 80 yards to the house, or run right past the defender and make a play on the ball.
Brown is forcing his way out of Pittsburgh with his actions, which include him sitting out the team’s final game of 2018. He has made it clear that he can no longer coexist with Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Everyone is aware that Brown wants what he feels he is owed and will not take anything less.
Bills Mafia was running wild on whether they would want Brown on their team or not. Then, they realized that a similar tweet came out 10 years to the date when the Bills made another unexpected move by signing Terrell Owens. This would be ironic and awesome at the same time. People were excitedly tweeting, retweeting, and picturing Josh Allen throwing to Brown for touchdowns all season long.
Then, early Friday morning, reports came out that the Bills were no longer pursuing Brown. Reports from all over Twitter are that Brown would not show up in Buffalo if he was traded there. Then, a statement came from Brandon Beane that the Bills are no longer in on the Brown sweepstakes.
We inquired about Antonio Brown on Tuesday, and kept talks open with the Steelers. We had positive discussions, but ultimately it didn’t make sense for either side. As great a player as Antonio Brown is, we have moved on and our focus is on free agency.
– Bills general manager, Brandon Beane
Now that we know Brown wouldn’t come to Buffalo, people will say that they didn’t want him anyways, or that he is too expensive.
But if you were Beane, would you have pulled the trigger?
