Buccaneers Sign Veteran LeSean McCoy

LeSean McCoy is headed to Tampa Bay after signing a one-year deal for the veteran minimum with the Buccaneers. Any possible incentive clauses were not disclosed.

McCoy joins veterans Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski who were signed as free agents, and running backs Ronald Jones, rookie, third-round draft pick Ke’Shawn Vaughn, and Dare Ogunbowale, among others. The receiving game is anchored by a pair of 1,000-plus yard pass-catchers in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

For McCoy, it will be his 12th season in the NFL which includes previous stops with the Eagles, Bills, and Chiefs. After joining Kansas City late in the 2019 offseason he was given the starting role, but his stats diminished as the season progressed. He finished with 646 total yards with a five yards-per-touch average and was active for only one game in the Chiefs playoff run and did not log a carry.

A six-time Pro Bowler and two-time First-Team All-Pro, McCoy recently expressed his desire to finish his career over 12,000 rushing yards. He currently sits 929 yards away from that goal, and at 32 years old it’s likely to take him longer than just one season in Tampa.

“He’s very excited to play with established vets like Brady and Gronk in trying to win another championship,” said Drew Rosenhaus, McCoy’s agent.
