For the first time since 2002, the Boston Bruins are off to a 3-0 start.
Their latest victory came Tuesday night as they defeated Las Vegas 4-3 in what might have been a Stanley Cup Finals preview.
Although the Bruins began the season on a somewhat daunting road trip, they have picked up where they left off last year. With only one game remaining until the home opener on Saturday night, this team is off to an impressive start in the 2019-2020 campaign.
One of the Bruin’s main problems last season was their depth. In the Finals, with a championship on the line, they relied on their top line, which didn’t deliver. Although the trio of Bergeron, Marchand, and Pastrnak dominated last night, the Bruins depth has been on full display so far. Against Dallas and Arizona, the Bruins top trio looked rusty, but they still found ways to win.
Additionally, the Bruins goalie tandem has gotten off to a tremendous start. After struggling mightily at the start of last year, Rask has been solid so far. His backup Jaroslav Halak has only had one start but stopped all 35 shots he faced. One of the Bruins strengths last year was the play of their goaltenders which has again been the case so far.
Last night, however, this team faced it’s the greatest test so far. Less than 10 minutes into the game against one the Western Conferences best, they faced a two-goal deficit. The Knights offense was dominating, and it seemed as if the Bruins were in store for a long night. Just when things looked bleak, the Bruins turned things around in a dominating fashion.
They went on to score four unanswered goals and took control of the game. It was an example of how good this team is as they faced adversity for the first time this season. Even though their top line powered the offense, other players like Charlie Coyle showcased impressive puck management. Torey Krug, who is known for his offense, also had some key defensive plays when Vegas tried to stop the Bruins momentum.
Although the season is far from over, it has been a perfect start for this team. The Bruins have struggled at times but done enough to win. Last night was a good example, even though they dominated the majority of the game. They have already dealt with injuries, but different players have stepped up.
Thursday night, they will look to continue their impressive start. It will, however, be no easy task as Colorado has yet to lose a game so far this season. If they can continue their recent play, however, it should be a challenge that the Bruins can handle.
