Five-game winning streak
Boston is coming out of this year’s holiday season in full force, ending 2017 with a five-game winning streak. The Bruins took on the Ottawa Senators for the first time since a six-game playoff series last season on Wednesday.
Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy talked about the team’s game plan for the Senators with NHL.com yesterday.
“Not having seen [Ottawa] we have to get back up to speed quickly and not fall into that turnover kind of game in the neutral zone that we have a tendency to do with them,” Cassidy said. “I hope our guys are mindful that that’s not the way to beat them.”
Boston’s victory was the first of six regular-season games against Ottawa since Dec 29, 2015.
McQuaid nears return
Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid was sidelined tonight to witness a whopping 5-1 win over Ottawa.
After having been a game-time decision the last two games, he was eager to prove his health, having been officially given a clean bill of health early Wednesday morning. Cassidy decided against bringing him back to the ice tonight, but assures that he will be traveling with the team, Thursday.
“It makes it easier to push [the return] back if the team is going well,” Cassidy told NHL.com. “There’s not as much urgency to force him back into the lineup. I had that conversation with Adam the other day and we’ll have that conversation again tomorrow.”
McQuaid is looking forward to rejoining the team for the second half of the season, after suffering a broken fibula on Oct. 19. The enforcer is ready to face the new year with a new and improved game.

Charlie McAvoy had the ultimate birthday present of scoring the final goal of the shootout, to win against Winnipeg Thursday. Boston continued their four-game winning streak against Detroit Saturday, with Marchand scoring twice to keep Boston in the lead. The streak hit five on Wednesday against Ottawa with two goals from Riley Nash, and a goal apiece from Danton Heinen and David Backes.
