Bruins Looking to Re-Sign Chara

Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara has proved to be an important leadership figure in the start of the Bruins season, and news broke via Hockey Night in Canada that the Bruins are planning on re-signing Chara instead of trading him.

“There have been some rumblings that some teams have asked the Bruins about him, would they consider moving him this year,” Elliotte Friedman said. “Don Sweeney said again today that he is not planning on moving him and he does plan on re-signing him.”

Chara has also been vocal about his desire to stay with the Bruins. Before the start of the season, Chara said “I have made no secrets about it. I want to stay here and continue to play. I definitely want to play [hockey with the Bruins] beyond this season.”

Chara is entering his 20th season in the NHL and 12th with the Bruins. This campaign marks the final year of a seven-year, $45-million contract he signed in 2011.

Chara has 189 goals and 607 points and is a +223 in 1,355 career games.
