On Monday night, the Boston Bruins will meet the Philadelphia Flyers in a regular season game that will have more meaning than usual. Bruins captain Zdeno Chara will be making history as he will become the sixth player in franchise history to appear in 1,000 games for the Bruins. Chara will be joining an impressive group that includes Patrice Bergeron, Ray Bourque, Johnny Bucyk, Wayne Cashman, and Don Sweeney.
For Chara, this is no small feat as he has been a key part of everything that this franchise embodies. Since joining the Bruins in 2006, he has stayed with the franchise through the highs and the lows. His tenure includes three Stanley Cup Finals, a Norris trophy, and one championship. He has also been a role model for countless Bruins players over the years and a leader on the ice.
So the Bruins are back.

Through 44 games this year, Chara has five goals and eight assists, nearly matching his totals from last year. He also has not been afraid to stand up for his teammates and has been the team’s enforcer at the age of 42.
While Chara’s milestone will not come in front of the Bruins faithful, he will not have to wait long. On Thursday night, the Bruins will return to the TD Garden where Chara will have a night he will never forget in a building where he has become a legend.
For the captain, his list of accomplishments is long and well-documented. On Monday night, however, he will join a special group with one of the game’s most storied franchises.
