There were many standout moments in the Cleveland Browns’ 30-10 preseason win over Washington last night. This includes the beautiful opening drive orchestrated by Baker Mayfield that culminated in a 24-yard touchdown pass to Rashard Higgins.
However, undoubtedly the best moment of the evening was a punt return.
Rookie Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi ran 86 yards to return a punt for a touchdown. The best part? He was wearing Odell Beckham Jr.’s shoes.
In an interview earlier today, Sheehy-Guiseppi told Rich Eisen that he didn’t have any shoes to play in. Beckham Jr. took the shoes off of his feet and gave him to Sheehy-Guiseppi, noting that he had “broke them in and everything just for [him].”
Sheehy-Guiseppi is not a stranger to breaking stereotypes. He did not play Division I football and hadn’t played organized football in two years before lying his way into a workout with the Browns. He pretended to know Browns vice president of player personnel Alonzo Highsmith in order to get on the field. He ran a 4.38-second 40-yard dash, which got the Browns attention.
He slept outside at a 24-hour fitness center because he had no money to put himself up in a hotel before the tryout that eventually landed him a contract.
Now, with Beckham Jr.’s cleats and a big first game for the Browns, Sheehy-Guiseppi hopes to make the 53-man roster come September.
