Broncos’ Courtland Sutton Done for Season With Torn ACL

12:55 p.m. update: Courtland Sutton tore his ACL and is done for the season.

The Denver Broncos already knew they lost quarterback Drew Lock for several weeks, but the hits keep coming. Now, the Broncos fear wide receiver Courtland Sutton suffered a “significant” knee injury, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

A timetable won’t be available for Sutton until the extent of his injury is determined, though “significant” surely means the injury will keep him out for several weeks at a minimum. The worst-case scenario would be an MCL or ACL injury, the latter of which would be season-ending.

Sutton suffered a should injury just days before Week 1 kicked off, forcing him to miss the season opener. He was active for Week 2, though, making three catches for 66 yards in his season debut before injuring his knee.

A Pro Bowler last season, Sutton has 1,882 career yards on 117 catches.

If Sutton indeed misses time, the Broncos will turn to rookie Jerry Jeudy as their No. 1 wide receiver. Fellow rookie K.J. Hamler made his NFL debut on Sunday and caught three of seven targets, making him a clear part of the offense. Tim Patrick, DaeSean Hamilton, and Diontae Spencer occupy the next three spots on the depth chart. Second-year tight end Noah Fant and veteran running back Melvin Gordon will also garner plenty of targets during Sutton’s absence.

The Broncos lost elite linebacker Von Miller on the final snap of preseason practices, as well as cornerback A.J. Bouye and running back Phillip Lindsay in Week 1. In addition to Sutton, quarterback Drew Lock went down on Sunday with a shoulder injury and will miss time. Jeudy also suffered a chest injury but returned to the game, finishing with four catches for 62 yards.

Despite the injuries, the Broncos didn’t go down with a fight. Jeff Driskel took over for Lock and attempted to form a comeback, but the Broncos ultimately fell short to the Steelers, 26-21.

After starting 0-2 with losses to the Tennessee Titans and Steelers, the Broncos turn their attention to a Week 3 clash with the 1-1 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
