In the 2020 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos drafted four defensive players while adding two defensive players through the undrafted free agent process. The six defensive players comprise two cornerbacks, one defensive lineman, one linebacker, one outside linebacker, and one safety. Let’s dive deeper into the defensive players taken in the draft.
Michael Ojemudia, CB, Iowa
With the 77th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Broncos selected Ojemudia. According to Rivals.com, Ojemudia was a two-star recruit and only had four collegiate offers before choosing to play at Iowa. He came to Iowa as an outside linebacker but transitioned to defensive back. He totaled 125 tackles, six interceptions, and 17 pass deflections during his four-year college career. At 6’1″, Ojemudia has the size and speed (4.45 40-time) to transition smoothly into Vic Fangio’s cover-2 scheme. With Chris Harris Jr. out of town, Ojemudia has a legitimate shot at starting opposite A.J. Bouye as soon as this year.
McTelvin Agim, DL, Arkansas
With the 95th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Broncos selected Agim. According to ESPN.com, Agim was a four-star recruit and had 19 collegiate offers before choosing to play at Arkansas. He totaled 140 tackles during his college career, which included 31 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks, and six forced fumbles. The former Under Armour All-American brings tremendous size (6’3″ and 309 lbs), strength, and quickness to this Broncos team. Agim is ultra-talented but raw. He may not play right away, but he’ll get to learn from established defensive linemen Jurrell Casey and Shelby Harris.
Justin Strnad, LB, Wake Forest
With the 178th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Broncos selected Strnad. According to ESPN.com, Strnad was a three-star recruit and had 15 collegiate offers before choosing to play at Wake Forest. He racked up 147 tackles during his college career, which included 22.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks, and four interceptions. At 6’3″, Strnad has the size and speed (4.74 40-time) to cover the elite tight ends in the AFC West. If the Broncos want to stop Travis Kelce, Darren Waller, and Hunter Henry, Strnad will need to pick up the playbook quickly and establish himself as Denver’s go-to cover linebacker.
Derrek Tuszka, OLB, NDSU
With the 254th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Broncos selected Tuszka. Tuszka was a three-year starter at NDSU totaling 133 tackles, 42 tackles for loss, 29.5 sacks, six pass deflections, and three forced fumbles. The incredible stats he racked up in college earned him First-Team All-American and Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Year. With the help of defensive guru Vic Fangio, Tuszka should be able to transition well from FCS-level competition to the pros. Tuszka projects to play a rotational role as an outside linebacker behind Von Miller and Bradley Chubb.

Here’s the list of defensive undrafted free agents the Broncos signed after the 2020 NFL Draft:

Essang Bassey, CB, Wake Forest

Douglas Coleman III, S, Texas Tech
Bassey totaled 227 tackles during his four-year college career at Wake Forest, including 12.5 tackles for loss. He also ran a 4.46 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. Coleman totaled 137 tackles, 11 interceptions (eight as a senior), and had 15 pass deflections during his college career at Texas Tech.
