Breaking: Patriots Cut Malcolm Mitchell

A fan favorite’s time in New England has come to an end as the sources have confirmed that the Patriots have released wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported the move made less than an hour ago.

Mitchell was productive as a rookie catching 32 passes for 401 yards and four touchdowns as well as an outstanding performance in Super Bowl LI against the Atlanta Falcons catching seven passes for 70 yards.

The Georgia alum has had quite the history with injuries to the right knee as in 2013, he tore his ACL during the celebration of the first touchdown on opening day.

Mitchell would injury it again during a voluntary team workout in 2014 which required arthroscopic knee surgery before going down again the same season with an unspecified injury to the same knee.

He joins a long list of wide receivers who have failed to fully develop in New England which include Chad Jackson, Aaron Dobson, Taylor Price, Brandon Tate, Josh Boyce, and Jeremy Gallon.
