After a long offseason of public criticism, the New York Jets finally traded Jamal Adams. In a deal with the Seattle Seahawks, the Jets have sent the All-Pro safety to Northwest for a bounty of draft picks.
In exchange for Adams and a 2021 fourth-round pick, the Jets will receive safety Bradley McDougald, a 2021 first-round pick, a 2021 third-round pick, and a 2022 first-round pick.

The Jets had refused to work out an extension with Adams this offseason and Adams requested a trade. The Seahawks got the superstar player they wanted but paid the price for it. Remember, the Chicago Bears paid less for Khalil Mack than the Seahawks did for Adams.
The Seahawks believe they are Super Bowl contenders and wanted to add a superstar to their defense. Now the Seahawks must work out a long term deal with Adams as he has just two years left on his rookie deal. Given how much the Seahawks gave up for Adams, he has a lot of negotiating power in his contract extension talks. In his three year career, Adams has made the pro bowl twice and was named First-Team All-Pro last season. He has missed just two games in his career while totaling 273 tackles, six forced fumbles, two interceptions, and 12 sacks.
With Adams gone, the Jets are left with Marcus Maye (who is entering a contract year), the newly acquired McDougald, and third-round rookie Ashtyn Davis at safety. The trio is pretty solid and the Jets now have future cap space they can use elsewhere (maybe get Sam Darnold a true number one receiver?) as well as four first-round draft picks over the next two years. Of course, they actually need to keep the players long enough to get a second contract.
Jets have traded away five consecutive first-round picks from 2013-2017.

Who won the trade? Time will tell. If the Seahawks can win a Super Bowl, you would say they won the trade. If the Jets add two stud players with the Seahawks’ first-round picks and win the AFC East in a few years, you would say they won the trade. In my opinion, both teams got exactly what they wanted, but forced to pick a side? The Jets made out slightly better. Again, time will tell who really won the trade.
On the way out the door, Le’Veon Bell apparently had some words directed at Adams. The Jets travel to Seattle in week 14 and it will be interesting to see how Adams and Bell play in that game.
