The Miami Dolphins have opened the 2020 NFL Draft with the selection of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

The 22-year-old junior started a few games as a freshman in 2017 but ended up taking Alabama to the SEC Championship and he won the game and its MVP honors.  In 2018 he was a runner up for the Heisman Trophy. He was also the SEC Offensive Player of The Year in 2018.

This past season he suffered a brutal hip injury in the middle of the season.

Tua finished his junior season as the Crimson Tide’s career touchdown responsibility leader with 96 first on the Alabama career passing touchdowns list with 87, eclipsing A.J. McCarron’s previous mark of 77, ranks third in Alabama for career passing yards with 7,442 across his two-plus seasons he led all quarterbacks with a 206.9 passer efficiency rating in 2019. Tagovailoa threw for 33 touchdowns as a junior to tie for eighth among all Division I quarterbacks in the week following his injury he also completed 71.4 percent of his passes, a percentage that was fifth in the country.

He also totaled 2,840 yards passing to rank 13th among NCAA signal-callers before his season-ending injury despite being limited to only a half of play against Tennessee and missing the Arkansas game.

From a scouting perspective, he’s beautiful to watch. This man’s technique is very consistent. He has tremendous strength in his lower body, plays with a consistent pace, he routinely is driving people off the ball, he allows the pass sets very consistently, and he played in the high-powered offense against some high-powered opponents. He will transition very nicely into the NFL.

The Dolphins have many pressing needs in the super important NFL draft. They hold three total first-round picks and are leading that paraphernalia of picks with their hopeful franchise quarterback.

The Dolphins haven’t had a franchise quarterback in years and have gone through quarterbacks named, Chad Pennington, Chad Henne, Ryan Tannehill, Matt Moore, Josh Rosen, Rya Fitzpatrick, and many others.  It has been tough for Miami.  Now there is hope for some certainty.
