Breaking: Bruins Defenseman Traded

Early Tuesday morning, it was announced that Boston Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid has been traded to the New York Rangers. In return, the Bruins received defenseman Steve Kampfer, a 2019 fourth round pick as well as a conditional seventh round pick.

McQuaid was one of the Bruins that won the Stanley Cup in 2011, and was for the most part a fan favorite because of his willingness to drop the gloves in spite of his lack of point production. McQuaid was always willing to put his body on the line for the Bruins with his grit and grind attitude. McQuaid totaled 13 goals and 66 points in nine seasons with the Bruins, with his most memorable goal the series clincher in the 2013 Eastern Conference Finals against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Kampfer is also a former Bruin. He was with the Cup winning Bruins in 2011, but only played 38 games as a result of a knee injury and thus did not get his name engraved on the Cup. He has bounced around the league, playing for the Bruins, the Minnesota Wild, the Florida Panthers, and the New York Rangers. The 29-year-old blue liner has registered 10 goals and 26 points in his NHL career, and he will look to make an impact on an already crowded Bruins defense corps.
