Breaking: Broncos Select Another Wide Receiver

The Denver Broncos selected their second receiver in as many picks, opting to choose Penn State’s KJ Hamler 46th overall.

Hamler is an absolute burner of a receiver, clocking a 4.27 40-yard dash.

Courtland Sutton is the team’s Z-type receiver, Jerry Jeudy running out of the slot, and now an over-the-top home run threat in Hamler. Drew Lock has been supplied with every possible weapon to succeed in his second season in the NFL.

The Broncos announced they wanted to add speed to the roster and wanted to build the offense through the draft, they have done that in their first two selections. Hamler had 904 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in his junior season a 16.8 yards per reception.

Hamler comes into Denver with a chance to challenge for special teams returner duties as well as a deep threat option to open up the rest of the field for the other top weapons on the offense.

John Elway has been true to his word by building the offense through the draft and has an opportunity to climb out of the basement of the NFL in terms of scoring offense. In a division where you have to try and score against the Super Bowl Champion Chiefs, you need to have a lot of weapons and the ability to score early and often. Adding new weapons in the passing game accomplishes that goal.

Hamler is a welcomed addition to the offense that now could boast one of the most stacked skill position groups in the NFL. Along with the aforementioned receivers Phillip Lindsay, Noah Fant, and Melvin Gordon, the Broncos are loaded on both sides of the football.

With three third-round selections, the Broncos could be looking to target a cornerback, safety, and an interior offensive lineman. Receivers in back to back selections is unorthodox, but the high ceiling of Hamler couldn’t be passed on.
