Braves Sign Yasiel Puig

With a global pandemic throwing a wrench into the sports world, MLB has had to adapt accordingly. One of those aspects is implementing a 60-man player pool.

The Atlanta Braves have solid outfield depth and a very strong starting outfield led by Ronald Acuña Jr., Marcell Ozuna, and Ender Inciarte.

They have strengthened that core even more with the reported addition of Yasiel Puig, a right fielder who formerly played for the Dodgers, Indians, and Reds.

Puig, 29, was signed to a six-year deal by the Dodgers out of Cuba as one of the best hitters to come from the island. He established himself as an All-Star in 2014 and was a superior defender for several years despite not winning a Gold Glove.

Over his career, Puig has played in 861 games, hitting 132 home runs with 415 RBI. He has a big personality but has done considerable charitable work in Los Angeles and Cleveland, too.

The Braves will now have to balance a platoon in the outfield and start Acuña in center field to allow Puig to start in right. Inciarte will turn into a more defensive replacement or matchup outfielder.

The financial terms were not released but it would be fair to assume that this is a low salary with plenty of incentives to cushion the contract.
