Boston Red Sox Select Nick Yorke at No. 17

With the 17th pick in the altered 2020 MLB Draft, the Boston Red Sox select Nick Yorke, a second baseman from Archbishop High School, California. He is currently committed to Arizona.

He is a 2020 preseason All-American and has tremendous upside. Over time, he’s risen on draft boards. Which, according to Chaim Bloom, seems to be something he truly enjoyed––the ability to grow and project.

He ranked No. 139 on the MLB’s Top 200 prospects list, so this pick will be an early test to the team’s developmental staff.

The Red Sox came into the draft with the fourth-worst farm system in the league, with Bobby Dalbec, Tristian Casas, and Jeter Downs headlining the list of top prospects for the organization.

Yorke makes this corps a lot better.

He is a hit-first middle infielder, which is a modern-day player. However, he was projected to go in the second round, meaning this pick could be considered a reach.
