In recent Boston Celtic rumors, the team is looking at trying to separate guard Zach LaVine from the Chicago Bulls. According to Brian Robb of Booth Newspaper, the Celtics would be interested in acquiring Zach LaVine from the Bulls if Bradley Beal elects to stay with the Washington Wizards.
Robb tweeted out saying “LaVine is a name that has been floated for a little bit as a potential target for Boston if Bradley Beal elects to stay put in Washington.”.
New: Is Zach LaVine a realistic target next offseason for #Celtics? What kind of trade value could Dennis Schroder build this season? All that and more in this week’s mailbag: https://t.co/MCR5uncxcI

The Chicago Bulls just recently signed Lonzo Ball and DeMar DeRozan to the roster to make a deep playoff push this season. It would be very difficult to understand if the Bulls would be willing to trade their best player in the middle of the season. Both Ball and DeRozan are under contract for three years, and Nikola Vucevic is under contract until the 2022-2023 season.
Acquiring the Guard
LaVine will be a free agent next season. He does not have a team or player option for the following season. The team just built around him. If the team succeeds this season it would be difficult to just walk away from a good position. Chicago is making a run for the title for the next two seasons. LaVine is the player that will lead them.
In the eyes of Boston, Beal is the clear-cut number one target. Brad Stevens; the President of basketball operations for the team, loves versatile and athletic wings. LaVine would be a perfect fit alongside Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. The team if they acquired LaVine would be the most athletic team in the NBA, as all three players are tremendous above the rim and provide incredible shooting. Robb later said, “His age and position do line up fairly well among Boston’s current group…”.
Acquiring LaVine would be difficult for Boston in a trade aspect. The team would have to give up multiple draft picks, multiple young players, and a contract that can match LaVine’s. Both teams would not make an offer this season, for obvious reasons that neither team would win in the trade. The best bet for the Celtics is waiting to see if LaVine is willing to part as the number one option in Chicago after one season and sign a deal with Boston knowing that he would be the third option behind Tatum and Brown. LaVine would be leaving behind a great situation in Chicago, but he would be entering a sure-fire situation at a title run by joining the Celtics roster next offseason.
