Bobby Dalbec is Heating Up

Bobby Dalbec

After a slow start to the season, Bobby Dalbec has found his stroke. The 25-year-old entered 2021 with high expectations after an impressive MLB debut. While he is only hitting .219, he has shown some positive signs over the past week. With the All-Star break less than a month away, Dalbec has been hard to keep off the bases.

In Dalbec’s last seven games, he is hitting .385. The former fourth-round pick also has five runs batted in over that stretch and has given Boston an offensive boost. After spending most of the season hitting in the low .200’s, Dalbec is hitting .250 in June. His resurgence is coming at a perfect time as Boston’s pitching has struggled over the last few weeks.

Additionally, in his last seven games, Dalbec has 10 hits. Four of those have gone for extra bases, including two triples. While his strikeout number is still high, he has been able to get on base. During his current hot streak, Dalbec’s OPS has risen by 104 points. As he has gained more experience, Dalbec is making adjustments at the plate, which are starting to produce results.

The Seattle native has created more time for himself by choking up on the bat. The change in approach has allowed Dalbec to use all fields as he did against Kansas City. It was a positive sign for the Boston Red Sox rookie, who is starting to reward Alex Cora’s faith. Since May 7, he is second on the Red Sox in batting average and first in slugging percentage. Over the last two weeks, he has been one of Boston’s most productive bats.

With the first half of the season nearly in the books, Dalbec’s bat is turning the corner. He is settling in at the major league level, which is a welcoming sign for Boston. While the Red Sox top of the lineup is set, Dalbec gives them a power bat in the bottom half. His recent play has also started to change the Red Sox trade deadline plans as he has been able to hit lefties and righties.

Over the last 10 days, Dalbec has gone 9-21 against right-handers. All three of his home runs in the past two weeks have also come against righties. When the Red Sox begin their series against Tampa Bay on Tuesday, Dalbec will be looking to continue his current stretch. In a key division series, Dalbec’s bat will play an important role.
