Week 2 of the 2020 NFL season got off to a somewhat exciting game on Thursday night between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland Browns. Gamblers who backed the Browns -6 were ripping their hair out at the end of the fourth quarter. A nine-yard touchdown pass from Joe Burrow to Tyler Boyd with 43 seconds left in the game gave Bengal +6 backer the back door cover. Hopefully, for your wallets, that won’t happen this weekend.
In addition to betting the spread, Moneyline, or the over/under total, you can also bet on what are called “props”. These are usually things like a certain player to throw for over/under a number of yards, or a certain player to score a touchdown. However, they aren’t limited to those two examples.
Each week, I will give my favorite prop bet from each game for the weekend. To have a little fun with it, I will be keeping track of how many prop bets I correctly predict. In addition, I will select one bet as my lock of the week. If it hits, I get a bonus point, but if I’m wrong, I lose two points. Last week I went 8-7, but Gardner Minshew ran for over 17.5 yards, giving me the bonus point for my lock of the week. With the bonus point, I finished the week with a 9-7 record. Probably none of you care about this, so without further ado, I take my 9-7 record for the season and dive into the best prop bets for Week 2.

New York Giants vs Chicago Bears
Anthony Miller to Score an Anytime Touchdown (+275)
Last week, Miller snagged one of Mitchell Trubisky‘s three touchdown passes against the Lions. Miller was targeted six times, catching four of them for 76 yards and the go-ahead touchdown from 27 yards out with two minutes left in the game. Meanwhile, the Giants gave up two touchdowns to the Steelers’ slot wide receiver, JuJu Smith-Schuster, last week. With James Bradberry focused on Allen Robinson, expect Miller to take advantage of the young cornerbacks on the roster and find the end zone for the second straight week.
Los Angeles Rams vs Philadelphia Eagles
Over 4.5 Receptions for Dallas Goedert (+120)
With Alshon Jeffery out again this week, expect the Eagles to use more two tight end sets than they usually do. The Eagles did similarly last week against Washington, and Goedert had a great game. He pulled in eight of his nine targets for 101 yards and a touchdown. With the Rams doing everything to slow down Zach Ertz, combined with the extra snaps, expect Goedert to pull in eight catches for the second straight week. Goedert likely hits the over on this bet by the end of the third quarter.
Atlanta Falcons vs Dallas Cowboys
Over 4.5 Receptions for Russell Gage (+124)
The Falcons found themselves in a shootout last week against the Seattle Seahawks as the final total was over 60 points. They are expected to find themselves in another shootout this week against the Cowboys, as the over/under in this game is the highest of the weekend. Gage had nine catches on 12 targets for 114 yards last week. Meanwhile, the Cowboys’ defense couldn’t stop anything the Los Angeles Rams threw at them last week. With the Cowboys scoring almost at will on the Falcons’ defense, expect Matt Ryan and the Falcons to matchup that scoring outing. The more aggressive the Falcons have to be on offense, the more pass attempts for Ryan, and the more targets for Gage.
Carolina Panthers vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Over 27.5 Team Points for the Buccaneers (-108)
If you think Tom Brady was a happy camper this week, then you’re beyond crazy. Coming off an ugly loss to Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints, expect Brady to have the offense focused and ready to put up points. Furthermore, last week the Panthers gave up 34 points to the las Vegas Raiders at home. Do you honestly think Brady is going to score fewer points at home against the Panthers than Derek Carr did on the road? Even with Chris Godwin likely out for the game, expect Brady to be focused and determined to score points. We could see the Brady of old and the Buccaneers go over the total in the first half.
San Francisco 49ers vs New York Jets
Chris Herndon to Score an Anytime Touchdown (+275)
With Le’Veon Bell, Denzel Mims, and Jamison Crowder all out for this game, Sam Darnold is going to have to go somewhere else with the football. Darnold has a history with Herndon, as he caught six of seven targets last week. The 49ers are expected to destroy the Jets, opening the door for plenty of garbage time scoring. Other than Breshad Perriman, Darnold has no other weapons to throw to. Bank on Herndon to find the end zone for the Jets, even if it’s their only touchdown of the game. However, if you want a super long shot to throw a few dollars down on, Perriman to score three times is +12500. If any Jets’ wide receiver goes off, it would be Perriman, especially with Richard Sherman on injured reserve.
Denver Broncos vs Pittsburgh Steelers
Over 1.5 Passing Touchdowns for Ben Roethlisberger (-124)
This was almost the lock of the week because this price makes no sense. Last week, Big Ben threw for three touchdowns against the Giants, despite getting off to a rocky start. After not playing in almost a year, the rocky start was expected. However, now that Big Ben has shaken off the rust, he is in prime position to hit the over on this bet. One, he is playing at home, where he always plays better than on the road. Two, the Broncos gave up two passing touchdowns to Ryan Tannehill last week. Three, the Broncos will be without their top cornerback, A.J. Bouye. Roethlisberger should hit the over on this bet before halftime.
Jacksonville Jaguars vs Tennessee Titans
Jonnu Smith to Score an Anytime Touchdown (+220)
Last week Smith caught four of seven targets for 36 yards and a touchdown. Now A.J. Brown is out for this game, and Corey Davis is coming off an injury that limited him in practice this week. Despite what the Jaguars did to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1, their defense isn’t any good. Someone other than Derrick Henry has to score for the Titans, and at more than 2-1 odds, Smith is an excellent value.
Detroit Lions vs Green Bay Packers
Davante Adams to Score an Anytime Touchdown & the Packers to Win the Game (+105)
To place a bet on Adams to score is -148. However, if you also agree with me that the Packers will win the game, you can get Adams to score and the Packers to win at a plus price. In nine career games against the Lions, Adams had scored six times. Furthermore, he is coming off a two touchdown game against the Vikings last week and should have had a third one if not for a bad drop on fourth down at the goal line. Meanwhile, the Lions gave up three touchdowns to Trubisky last week. While Jeff Okudah will suit up for the Lions this week, Adams destroyed the Vikings’ young cornerbacks last week and should do the same again this week.
Buffalo Bills vs Miami Dolphins
*Lock of the Week* Over 34.5 Rushing Yards for Josh Allen (-112)
Last week my lock of the week was on a quarterback rushing total, and I got back to the well again this week. Against the Jets in Week 1, Allen had 57 rushing yards on 14 carries. Furthermore, Allen had seven games last season with over 34.5 rushing yards. Meanwhile, the Dolphins got ran over by Cam Newton, as he had 75 rushing yards on 15 carries last week. Expect the Bills to copy the New England Patriots’ gameplan from last week and watch Allen hit the over on this bet before halftime.
Minnesota Vikings vs Indianapolis Colts
Over 264.5 Passing Yards for Philip Rivers (-112)
While the Colts lost last week against the Jaguars, Rivers still threw for 363 yards. Now he faces a Vikings’ secondary that gave up 364 passing yards and four touchdowns to Aaron Rodgers. With plenty of weapons at his disposal and a young Vikings’ cornerback group to pick on, expect the veteran Rivers to have a field day on Sunday. He will likely hit the over on this bet early in the fourth quarter.
Washington Football Team vs Arizona Cardinals
Over 5.5 Receptions for DeAndre Hopkins (-124)
Last week the Houston Texans’ wide receivers combined for 13 catches while Hopkins had 14. Do you think the Texans regret the trade yet? Anyways, that’s a different topic for a different day. While Washington has a great defensive line, led by Chase Young, their secondary lacks talent. If Hopkins put up 14 catches against Sherman and the 49ers, is there any chance he doesn’t get at least six against Fabian Moreau and Washington? Hopkins hits the over on this bet by halftime.
Baltimore Ravens vs Houston Texans
Mark Andrews to Score an Anytime Touchdown (-112)
Lamar Jackson‘s favorite target scored twice last week against the Browns. Meanwhile, the Texans gave up one of Patrick Mahomes‘ three touchdown passes to Travis Kelce last week. The Texans’ defense isn’t very good and should have no answer for Andrews. In what is all but a lock, Andrews will score at least once tomorrow. For those of you who want to take a little more of a risk, Andrews to score twice is +425 and not a bad bet to make as well.
Kansas City Chiefs vs Los Angeles Chargers
Patrick Mahomes to Throw More Touchdown Passes than Tyrod Taylor (-200)
This is a heavy price to pay, but it is just short of a guarantee. Last week Mahomes had three passing touchdowns while Taylor had none against a below-average Bengals’ unit. Now while Mahomes is facing a much better defense this week than he did in the Texans last week, he is still going to outplay Taylor. Mahomes leads the most explosive pass-heavy offense in the league while Tyrod plays on one of the most conservative teams in the league. This is bet is free money.
New England Patriots vs Seattle Seahawks
Under 2.5 Total Touchdowns by the Patriots (-182)
Last week the Patriots scored just three touchdowns against the Dolphins, and now they head to Seattle to take on the Seahawks. Unlike Miami, Seattle won’t let Newton run all over them. This game is expected to be low scoring and a defensive fight. Unless the defense or special teams score a touchdown, the Patriots’ offense is going to struggle to score twice, let alone three times.
New Orleans Saints vs Las Vegas Raiders
Jared Cook to Score an Anytime Touchdown (+140)
With Michael Thomas likely out for this game, the Raiders will try to do everything to stop Alvin Kamara. With Kamara getting all the defense’s attention, Brees will turn his attention elsewhere. Emmanuel Sanders should step up with Thomas out of the lineup, but when the Saints get down in the red zone, Cook is the guy they target. Last season, his first in New Orleans, Cook had a career-high nine touchdowns. Gamblers can bank on Cook to score at least once on Monday Night against an awful Raider defense.
