It is official, the Chicago Bears have announced Mitchell Trubisky as their starting quarterback for week one. The fourth-year quarterback out of North Carolina will be the week one starter for the third straight season. Trubisky beat out former super bowl MVP Nick Foles, who the Bears traded a fourth-round pick for back in March.

It’s due to his progression, leadership and overall performance throughout camp. Nick Foles made decision difficult for Matt Nagy, but the team feels strong about its QBs.
This did not come as a surprise to many people. Foles was brought in to push Trubisky and be ready to take over if he did not improve. Foles however did not go down without a fight for the starting position. Both quarterbacks switched off with the starters all camp long. Trubisky did enough to show the coaches that he has improved from last season.
Trubisky will have to take the leap from last season if the Bears are going to make it to the playoffs. Last season he threw for 3,138 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. However, he was banged up throughout the season. Trubisky dislocated his shoulder and had a slight tear in his labrum in week two against the Minnesota Vikings. Trubisky is fully healthy this year so there are no excuses and it is now or never for the Bears former second overall pick.
