Chase Briscoe is sizzling hot at the moment, having just won his second race in the past three weeks this past Saturday at Pocono. It’s also a huge bounce back result after finishing 18th the week prior at Talladega Superspeedway. Briscoe and Ross Chastain traded the lead in those last two laps, however, it was Briscoe that eventually gained the upper hand on Chastain. Briscoe would beat out the runner-up by just over a second. Chastain did not go away empty handed either, after he won the $100,000 Dash for Cash grand prize. It was awarded to the highest finisher among four eligible drivers.

As was to be expected at Talladega Superspeedway, it was a race that would inevitably come down to an overtime finish. Kevin Harvick would get the jump on the restart, leading the first two laps. However, during that final lap Ryan Blaney would make a sharp pass on the outside of Harvick, giving Blaney the race lead. Ricky Stenhouse Jr would then give Harvick a hard bump and run, and then make his pass on the outside.

Team Award Predictions: Houston Texans

The Houston Texans were able to get themselves out of the wild card round for the first time in three years, knocking off the Buffalo Bills 22-19 in overtime. However, they still would not be able to get over that divisional round hump, losing out to the eventual Super Bowl winner Kansas City Chiefs 51-31. The Texans in fact would have a 24-0 lead early in the second quarter but gave up 28 unanswered points before half-time. With the 2019 season in the past, it’s now time to focus on the 2020 season. Here are my team award predictions for the Texans.

NASCAR DFS Unhinged 300

Last weekend was a little offbeat for the Xfinity Series, as there would be back to back races at Homestead-Miami. After finishing in seventh place on Saturday, Chase Briscoe would wrap up the doubleheader with a nail-biting victory at the Contender Boats 250.  Brandon Jones, Ross Chastain, and A J Allmendinger would round out the top four. In order to win, Briscoe would need to do it with a completely new man on the pit box.

The Gibbs side had plenty of problems on Wednesday night at Martinsville. However, it would end up being Martin Truex Jr that carried the can for the organization. Erik Jones and Denny Hamlin would each finish the race three laps down. Normally a strong driver at his home track, Hamlin had problems most of the night. He ended up 24th, which was last among the Gibbs drivers.

Kevin Harvick just continues to dominate at Atlanta Motorspeedway, having led at least 45 laps or more in his past seven NASCAR Cup Series visits. In dominating fashion on Sunday, Harvick would lap all but the last nine drivers by races end. Martin Truex Jr would win the first two stages but would be overtaken by Harvick with 105 laps left to go. Harvick would not relinquish the lead after that.

It finally came up trumps for Hendricks driver Chase Elliott on Thursday night. After his  hopes of victory were quickly dashed in the previous Cup Series race. Elliot was able to close the deal, only a week later. Again rain would not cooperate, pushing the race back another day. Joey Logano would lead the first portion of the event, capturing the first stage and 33 of the laps. Alex Bowman took the stage 2 win, but would finish in 31st place.

After the Xfinity race was postponed the day before due to a torrential down pour, rain would indeed prove to be the decider in Wednesday’s Cup Series event. Until the last thirty or so laps, it did look as though the weather would indeed holdup.

NASCAR DFS Real Heroes 400

It’s been almost two full months since we had a real NASCAR race, as the Pro Invitational Series did a suitable job of filling the hole left by the absence. However, I am very much looking forward to seeing real NASCAR events again and perhaps this can be a good first step towards getting major Sports back. As is to be expected, the races will all be empty-seat events. These next four races are to be split among Darlington and Charlotte, in order to keep the teams from traveling to far out of their home bases of North Carolina.
