Another week in the NBA, and another successful week for this rookie class. They continue to impress, and the race for Rookie of the Year is heating up. Who takes No. 1 in the rankings this week, and who gets snubbed?
The Miami Dolphins were the definition of an up and down team this season. They opened up the season 1-0 before going on a seven-game losing streak.
As we complete our first full week of NBA action in the new year, the rookie rankings begin to heat up. Let’s look at the rankings and the new No. 1 rookie this week.
More players are entering NBA’s health and safety protocols, but these rookies have come off the list and picked up where they left off. From players setting career-high scoring nights to setting the youngest NBA triple record double, it’s well known that these rookies are remarkable. Stepping into the first action of 2022, let’s see how these rookies stacked up on our list.
Any first-year player in any sport will always spotlight them to perform at the highest level immediately after being drafted. Franz Wagner has been performing at the highest level like his rookie counterparts.
The NBA season is being strongly hit by COVID-19. Canceling games, players being placed in protocols, it will be interesting to see how this affects the rest of the season and the extremes that could happen. COVID is now starting to affect our rookie rankings, placing Evan Mobley, Scottie Barnes, and Cade Cunningham on the COVID reserves list. With a brand new week done around the association, let’s look at some new faces who have performed well.
The Western Michigan Broncos (-6.5) will meet the Nevada Wolfpack (+6.5) in the 2021 Quick Lane Bowl which kicks off at 11:00 am EST on Monday. Both teams come into the matchup after dominating their final games against Colorado State and Northern Illinois respectively.
This past weekend, the Cleveland Cavaliers G-league affiliate team, the Cleveland Charge, debuted their “ugly sweater” jerseys for ugly sweater day. The Charge’s inaugural season began this year as the Charge called Canton home for over 10 years.
Like a season ago, unfortunately, the NBA is starting to cancel/postpone games due to the increase in COVID-19 and COVID-related symptoms sidelining players. While players may be out due to this or their games canceled, all the rookies and the amount they play will be considered heavily within the rankings.
Each week its gets harder to rank these spectacular rookies. Any of the guys on this list could be in great contention for rookie of the year in any other year.
There is no change in the current top five rankings in a week where we saw awe-inspiring rookie performances. Is that boring? Perhaps. Around the league, more and more rookies are stepping up.
