With the introduction of the Premier Lacrosse League comes a new look to the North American sports world.
Six teams, comprised of the World’s best lacrosse players, traveling to 12 cities across the United States and Canada.
The best of the best are coming to a city near you.
The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) was co-founded by lacrosse’s first multi-millionaire Paul Rabil, his brother Mike, along with many other investors. The main goal from the room is to make a player-centered and fan-focused league.
This operation offers its players full-time wages, equity, and benefits. In doing so, the PLL becomes the first North American sports league to offer its players equity.
The players are put in the driver’s seat and given the keys to run the team. In other words, the league is only as successful as the players allow it to be.
Another unique aspect of this new league is its tour-style play. The Premier Lacrosse League doesn’t supply a home field to any of their teams, which no other sport does. As a result, each game will be played at a neutral site, allowing for a wide variety of fan support around the country.
NBC Sports has partnered with the PLL in order to broadcast their games to a national audience.
The six teams (Archers, Atlas, Chaos, Chrome, Redwoods and Whipsnakes) are comprised of an extensive list of accomplished lacrosse players. This fraternity of players includes 86 college All-Americans, 25 U.S. National Team players, and 10 Tewaaraton Award winners.
A few of the marquee names that fans can expect to see are Jeremy Thompson (Midfield, Chaos LC), Miles Thompson (Attack, Chaos LC), John Galloway (Goalie, Chrome LC) and of course Paul Rabil (Midfield, Atlas LC). A complete team roster can be found here.
The inaugural game will be played in Boston on June 1, with the action beginning at 1 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium. The PLL also teamed up with the Women’s Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL).
While the WPLL will not attend every weekend, they will be a part of the opening weekend in Foxboro, MA.
