As expected, the Jets were steamrolled by the Colts on Sunday. Right from the start, New York had no chance against Indianapolis as the injuries on offense were far too much to overcome.
Lopsided Victory
Sam Darnold had a 47.0 rating and had one touchdown against three interceptions, two that were returned for touchdowns. Frank Gore was once again pounded on the ground as he had 15 rushes. On the receiving end, Darnold’s favorite target was Kalen Ballage, who had five catches for 44 yards. Braxton Berrios caught the lone touchdown of the game for the Jets. Mekhi Becton left the game with a shoulder injury as things got worse offensively. Defensively, the Jets couldn’t slow down Indianapolis and didn’t record a single sack.
For Indianapolis, this was a great game in all phases. Philip Rivers was 17-21 for 217 yards and a touchdown to Mo Alie-Cox for his 400th career touchdown. Jonathan Taylor continued his success as the lead man in the backfield, as he recorded a touchdown and had 4.5 yards per carry. Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins also factored in. T.Y. Hilton had three catches for 52 yards, and it looked as though both Michael Pittman Jr and Daurice Fountain benefited due to Parris Campbell‘s injury. The defense throttled Darnold by pressuring him into three interceptions. Xavier Rhodes had two himself including one returned for a touchdown, and T.J. Carrie had the other pick-six.
Highlights
This game went as expected with the Colts blowing out the Jets, 36-7. New York is the worst team in the league, and it isn’t close. It will be a miracle if Adam Gase lasts two more weeks. To make matters worse, the Jets play Thursday night against another depleted team in the Denver Broncos. For Indianapolis, they hope to continue their success against the Chicago Bears next week.
