Report: Adrian Peterson Signs With Detroit Lions

Report: Adrian Peterson signs with Detroit Lions

After getting released by the Washington Football Team by the 53-man roster cuts, the ageless Adrian Peterson has found a new home.

The Detroit Lions have added Peterson to their running back core which now features Kerryon Johnson and rookie D’Andre Swift. Peterson will now reunite with offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell who Peterson played for as a rookie in 2007 with the Vikings.

Peterson was the seventh pick in the 2007 draft to the Minnesota Vikings. He played there for nine years until he sustained several injuries leading to the Vikings moving on from him. He bounced from the New Orleans Saints and the Arizona Cardinals in 2017 until landing on his feet in Washington for the last two seasons.

A Dominant Runner

Peterson’s career accolades include an MVP in 2012, offensive player of the year in 2012, a four-time first-team All-Pro, with them coming in 2008, 2009, 2012, and 2015. He also is a seven-time Pro Bowl selectee, the Rookie of the Year in 2007, the rushing yards leader in 2008, 2012, and 2015, the rushing touchdowns leader in 2009 and 2015, and also was selected to the NFL 2010’s All-Decade team.

Detroit picked up Peterson, 35, on a fairly team-friendly deal for the veteran, paying him only $1,050,000 on his 1-year deal. The Detroit rushing attack will now be much stronger and scary to face. Last season Adrian posted 898 yards with an average of 4.3 yards per carry along with five touchdowns.

Peterson will look to help advance the rebuild in Detroit and hopefully give Matthew Stafford another weapon in his arsenal.
