The Trade Deadline still provided a buzz despite it taking place a month later than usual. The Reds had their hand on the action. Before losing a 7-5 contest to the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday, the Cincinnati Reds added two more players to their roster.
Cincinnati first acquired outfielder Brian Goodwin from the Los Angeles Angels and sent left-handed pitching prospect Packy Naughton and a PTBNL or cash.
Goodwin is a former first-round pick and is hitting .242 with a .330 on-base percentage. He has 23 hits this season and 11 of which are for extra bases. His 2019 season was the best of his professional career with 17 home runs and 29 doubles, proving his ability to hit for extra bases is one of his better tools.

The 29-year-old is under team control through 2022 and arbitration-eligible for the new two seasons.
Soon after, the Reds acquired right-handed reliever Archie Bradley from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for utilityman Josh VanMeter and minor league outfielder Stuart Fairchild.
Bradley is another former first-round pick (from the same 2011 draft class) and has pitched in the back-end of the Arizona bullpen the last four seasons. 2017 was his best season as he finished 20th in the National League MVP voting with a 1.73 earned-run average.

Turning 28 just three weeks ago, Bradley is under team control through the 2021 season. Bradley currently has a 4.22 ERA and struck out 12 batters in 10.1 IP. His presence gives the Reds some flexibility to assess their options in the bullpen in regards to Amir Garrett, Raisel Iglesias, Michael Lorenzen, and company.
Moving away from roster additions, Cincinnati stands at 15-20 and four games back of the division-leading Chicago Cubs after winning just four of its last ten games.
Anthony DeSclafani matched up with Dakota Hudson on Monday and was outpitched. DeSclafani went 3.2 innings and surrendered all seven of the runs St. Louis scored.

Michael Lorenzen and Nate Jones impressed, however, in relief of their starting pitcher. The two combined for 5.1 shutout IP and allowed three hits and one walk and struck out five.
Entering the final month of the regular season, the Reds have two interesting additions but must make massive headway to better position themselves for Postseason baseball.
Sonny Gray will pitch against Cardinals lefty Kwang Hyun Kim as Cincinnati continues its home series against St. Louis at 6:40 EST on Tuesday.
