Analyzing The Red Sox Deadline Trades

While the Red Sox did not make any drastic seller trades, they did however make a couple of moves. How did the Red Sox fare in these trades? Let’s find out!

Red Sox Receive: Nick Pivetta and Connor Seabold

Phillies receive: Brandon Workman and Heath Hembree

While it may take some time to see who won this trade, let’s go over the certainties. Philadelphia’s bullpen was one of the worst-ranked bullpens before the trade. The Phillies relievers had a combined 8.07 ERA before Friday’s trade. While Workman and Hembree won’t be their saviors per se, their experience and composure is something they desperately needed.

The Red Sox still wanted to shed money off of the cap to reset and retool the roster to be competitive as soon as next season. They also desperately need some fresh faces not only on their pitching staff but in their farm system as well. With a below-average farm system to show for it. We will wait to see how productive Pivetta and Seabold can be in upcoming games.

Red Sox Receive: Hudson Potts and Jeisson Rosario

Padres Receive: Mitch Moreland

While the San Diego Padres received a great player in Moreland, the Red Sox got two great players to add to the mix in their farm system. With Bobby Dalbec being called up, their farm system grew a little weaker. Minor-league infielder Hudson Potts has just the upside to make it more competitive. Chaim Bloom had this to say about these minor leaguers. ” Both these guys have a chance to be really exciting players,” Bloom said. “Very high upside, both of them. Pretty accomplished minor league players at levels where they’ve been very young.”

“Hudson Potts is primarily a third baseman but he did see some time at second base last summer as well,” Bloom said. “A big physical kid with a lot of power and a good arm. Really good tools. A chance, as he continues to develop his approach, that he can be a real asset with the bat and be able to play multiple positions. “Jeisson Rosario is a top-flight athlete who profiles as a true center fielder and a true leadoff hitter. Plus-plus runner, really good athlete, very good ability in the outfield, has a really advanced feel for the strike zone at a young age and we’re excited to see how he develops as he grows and adds strength. He’s got the upside to play center every day and hit at the top of the lineup.”

That’s a big bode of confidence for these two young players, let’s see if the organization can help these guys shine.

Red Sox Receive: A PTBNL or Cash

Rockies Receive: Kevin Pillar

This is a huge loss for Boston, Pillar has played very well for such a cheap contract. It would’ve made more sense to move a higher cost guy like Jackie Bradley Jr. but the Rockies got a huge boost in the outfield.

Red Sox Receive: Cash or a PTBNL

The Cubs Receive: Josh Osich

This trade is almost a wash. The Josh Osich experiment did not work out in Boston, no harm no foul. Hope it all works out for him in Chicago.

A lot of wait and see, but time will tell. They retooled their farm system and shed a small amount of Salary which is a win-win. They also kept on Bogaerts and Devers, who will be key figures in their next championship run!
