Report: Rockies Acquire Kevin Pillar From Red Sox

Rockies acquire Pillar: Kevin Pillar

The Boston Red Sox have agreed to send outfielder Kevin Pillar and cash to the Colorado Rockies for international slot money and a player to be named later, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.

Pillar, who generally is known for his fielding prowess, has been an extremely effective hitter while in Boston this season. The eight-year MLB veteran hit .274 in 30 games for the Red Sox. He posted the best OPS+ of his career at 109.

The Rockies are sitting in one of the most loaded divisions with the Los Angeles Dodgers rolling over the entire league and the San Diego Padres making moves faster than anyone can process.

Adding Pillar to an outfield that already has Charlie Blackmon and David Dahl provides some additional defensive help and a versatile bat that can be placed anywhere in the lineup.

Although there were rumors about the Rockies adding some bullpen help, outfield assistance was also at the top of their list.

With the Red Sox hesitant to send away star catcher Christian Vasquez, they have now traded Josh Osich, Mitch Moreland, Matt Barnes, and Pillar.

Currently at 17-17, the Rockies are three games back from the Padres and eight games back from the Dodgers. The Rockies are looking to make a playoff push. The addition of an experienced and versatile outfielder will be key if they have any chance of making a late October run.
