Marlins Trade Villar to the Blue Jays

Marlins Trade Villar to Blue Jays: Jonathan Villar

The Miami Marlins are buyers and sellers this year. One player they moved was Jonathan Villar. He becomes a Toronto Blue Jay. The Jays give up Griffin Conine.

Villar is a dynamic player who fits right in with the young Blue Jays. He leads the AL in steals with nine and is slashing .272/.328/.360. He gives Toronto some depth and versatility in the infield with Bo Bichette out. Just last year Villar played in all 162 games for the Baltimore Orioles with 24 HRs and 40 SBs. He is still only 29 years old.

The Marlins get Griffin Conine in return. The 23-year-old has pop in his bat. He hit 22 HRs last year at Single-A ball in Lansing but struck out 125 times in 348 PAs. The son of Jeff Conine, who was a long-time major leaguer, the left-handed hitter gives the Marlins a controllable bat for the foreseeable future.
