Bruins Close Regular Season With Loss; Playoff Position to Be Decided by Maple Leafs

Today’s loss to the Washington Capitals marks the end of the regular season for the Boston Bruins. The Bruins finished the regular season with a record of 44-31-7 (95 points).

Considering where the Bruins were just over halfway through the season, making the postseason is quite the feat. As of February 7th, the Bruins sat at 26-23-6 and had fired their head coach Claude Julien and replaced him with Bruce Cassidy.

The Bruins may have come into today’s game having already clinched a playoff spot, but today’s loss puts their playoff seed and their first round opponent out of their control and into the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Maple Leafs currently sit at 95 points (tied with the Bruins), but have one game left against the Columbus Blue Jackets to potentially jump them in the standings.

Should the Maple Leafs win their last game against the Blue Jackets, Boston would drop to the second Eastern Conference Wild Card Spot and would be forced to play against the #1 seeded Washington Capitals, the team that just soundly defeated the Bruins.
