White Sox Wednesday: Bats Come Alive

In the span of two games, the Chicago White Sox’ explosive bats have come alive. Not only that, but they also accomplished an impressive feat in the process.

With their 7-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday, they joined the Washington Nationals as the only teams to hit four consecutive home runs twice in franchise history.

Third baseman Yoan Moncada, catcher Yasmani Grandal, first baseman Jose Abreu, and left fielder Eloy Jimenez homered in the fifth inning.

The Sox first set this record on Aug. 14, 2008, when Jim Thome, Paul Konerko, Alexei Ramirez, and Juan Uribe homered four straight times against the Kansas City Royals.

The team’s hot bats continued into Monday’s game, which they won 7-2 over the Detroit Tigers. Chicago totaled six home runs, including two by Moncada and shortstop Tim Anderson to lead off the game. Later, Anderson hit another in the second inning. Center fielder Luis Robert finished with a pair of his own, and Danny Mendick went yard as well.

Offensively, the team is starting to look like the squad fans were expecting considering their offseason acquisitions. However, the entire pitching staff has been inconsistent so far. The team will have to continue to score runs in order to make the postseason.

Almost a third of the way through this truncated season, the White Sox are just one game over .500 with a 12-11 record. They sit in third place in the American League Central division, trailing the first-place Minnesota Twins by just three games.

The Sox have a three-game set against the cross-town rival Cubs this weekend after wrapping up a four-game series against the Tigers on Thursday.
