Report: Gordon Hayward Expected to Miss Multiple Weeks with Grade 3 Ankle Sprain

The Boston Celtics announced forward Gordon Hayward suffered a grade 3 ankle sprain in Monday’s series opening victory against the 76ers. Hayward underwent an MRI following the game, which revealed the severity of the sprain. He contributed 12 points and 4 steals before leaving the game in the 4th quarter.

This is a tough blow for a Celtics team hoping to make a deep playoff run. Hayward has been a key piece for them all season, averaging 17.5 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per contest. He did that on 50% FG shooting, including 38.3% from deep. Boston will look to survive until he is healthy enough to return, but when exactly he will be ready to return is unknown.

This is another tough blow for Hayward in his time with the Celtics. Injuries have plagued him since his first game after signing with Boston in free agency. Each time he works his way back to where he was before the injuries, he gets hit with another one. One thing we do know is that he will attack his rehab and do whatever he can to get back on the court.

For now, Boston will have to fill the void left by Hayward by committee.
