New York Jets Release Quincy Enunwa

The New York Jets released wide receiver Quincy Enunwa on Monday.

The Enunwa release wasn’t the only move the Jets made as they also waived running back  Trenton Cannon, offensive lineman Ben Braden, and linebacker Wyatt Ray.

Releasing Enunwa won’t save the Jets money because he will get his $6 million guaranteed salary for this year, according to Dennis Waszak Jr. of the Associated Press. His contract also includes an injury guarantee of $4.1 million for 2021.

Enunwa was drafted by the Jets in 2014. He was put on the PUP list in May. In five seasons, he played in 41 games and had 119 receptions for 1,617 yards and five touchdowns. He had his best season in 2016 when he added 58 receptions for 857 yards and four touchdowns.

Enunwa’s release comes after linebacker C.J. Mosley opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19.

“You can only control what you can control,” Mosley said in June. “I feel the NFLPA and the NFL working together with the doctors and the experts are making sure … to have everybody safe and sound when we get back or if we get back. I don’t know what the plan is. But I’m just doing everything I can on my side to stay safe, keep my family safe, and make sure I’m ready to go.”

Now, the Jets need someone to take Enunwa’s spot.
