Jamal Adams Reportedly Requests Trade

It appears that the relationship between Jamal Adams and the Jets’ front office has reached the “gotten too sour” point.

Just hours after Jamal Adams responded to a comment on Instagram with the words, “maybe it’s time to move on,” he made the move to do just that by formally requesting a trade.

The news felt inevitable after a constant tango between the front office and Adams for a new deal. Adams had continually expressed his frustration with cryptic tweets about his displeasure and according to ESPN reporter Rich Cimini, Adams requested a trade.

Adams has been at odds with general manager Joe Douglas dating back to the 2019 trade deadline when Douglas fielded calls for the All-Pro safety much to the dismay of Adams. Now fast forward to June 2020 and Adams is still without an extension, but he may be may have to a while for either a trade or the massive extension that he desires. Joe Douglas and the Jets’ front office have all the leverage in this situation with there being two years left on Adams’ deal. Douglas is in no rush to shell out a massive deal to Adams unless a team has an offer that he can’t refuse. Adams has been the best safety in the league over the past two years and certainly deserves to get paid like it, but don’t expect Douglas to fold anytime soon. Just a month after navigating a draft in the middle of a pandemic, Douglas will now have to either make amends with his star safety and best player or negotiate a deal that brings back enough value for a young star.

At the end of the day though, Adams may just want out of the Jets organization and want to play for a winner. NFL insider Adam Schefter released a list of the teams that Adams would be open to being traded to and there is a common thread between all of them: they are all contenders.

To add to the intrigue, Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News reported that there are certain teams that Adams would welcome being traded and not immediately request a contract extension. All signs point to Adams simply wanting out of Gang Green and a desire to compete.

The partner that seems to make the most sense for the Jets and Jamal Adams is the Dallas Cowboys. It has been made known that Adams wants to play for Dallas and the Cowboys have a bevy of options available at wide receiver, a position the Jets desperately need to upgrade for Sam Darnold.
