Leandro Bolmaro is a 19-year-old prospect from Argentina. Bolmaro is a 6’7 shooting guard/small forward and is considered to be one of the best international prospects in the 2020 NBA Draft.
2019-20 Season
During the 2019-20 season, Bolmaro played with FC Barcelona II in the LEB Silver league and spent time with FC Barcelona as part of the ACB and EuroLeague Barça squads. However, the sample size at each level is fairly small; playing nine games in the LEB Silver, seven in the ACB, and six games in the EuroLeague.
His best stretch of games came with FC Barcelona II. He made seven starts in nine appearances and averaged just a shade under 27 minutes per contest. He also posted 14.8 points, dished about three assists, and came up with nearly two steals per game.
Strengths
Bolmaro is a very unselfish player that enjoys hitting his teammates while they’re open. He has shown the ability to make passes in traffic, and passes with a high degree of difficulty,
Bolmaro is a good ball handler and enjoys driving to the basket. His ability to get inside the defense opens up passing lanes allowing him to take advantage of his passing ability.
Bolmaro displays a high motor and works hard on the defensive. His active hands and ability to guard the perimeter make him versatile.
Weaknesses
Bolmaro can sometimes take too many chances with the basketball. He will force passes into too tight of spaces leading to turnovers.
He is inconsistent shooting from distance. Bolmaro can be inconsistent in his release point, letting the ball go too early or too late. This has also affected his free throw shooting where he has hovered in the lower 60% range.
Verdict
Leondro Bolmaro shows potential as a secondary playmaker due to his passing and ball-handling ability. Bolmaro’s willingness to shoot from deep and ability to guard the perimeter make him viable as a “three-and-D” threat.
Bolmaro will need to improve his shooting mechanics and his decision making to be successful at the next level.
Pro Comparison
Leondro Bolmaro draws comparison to fellow Argentinian, Manu Ginobili because of his ball-handling, passing, and slashing abilities.
