With week six in the books, a lot of IDP fantasy owners should start seeing who’s making an impact for their teams and who’s not. The heart of the bye weeks is amongst us, which means defense wins weeks and not just championships.
For instance, I lost Todd Gurley in my dynasty IDP league and had to start Justice Hill instead, while he provided 4.6 points Sunday, my defense provided 68.25 fantasy points to take down the only undefeated team in the league making us tied for the lead at 5-1 records. I was fully confident in my IDP players though and while some see them as a crap a shoot in scoring, they are an intricate part of IDP leagues and winning. Week seven is on the horizon and it’s not too late to make some moves and get those consistency players to start pushing to the playoffs.
Recap of last week though I’ll start with the highlight of Devin Bush who had seven tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception. Again, he should be owned everywhere! Janoris Jenkins had a good game Thursday night against the Patriots. He had three solo tackles, two passes defended, and an interception on the night.
The low light was Brian Burns, who did have a sack, but just one tackle, which was a solo and for loss, in addition to a hit on the quarterback. My sleeper though disappointed with the opportunity he had after his game against the Cowboy’s with one measly tackle and pass defended against Detroit. He did play 57 snaps, so with more playing time, he could bounce back against Oakland. Now here are my guys I’m looking for week seven.
Defensive Line
John Simon, New England Patriots
Simon has become a very good plug and plays guy and it’s got to do with how well that New England defense is. While yes, playing time on the field is very valuable and seeing the snaps consistently rack up points. I like what the Patriots are doing with Simon. He has come up big as of late and he has a nice matchup for the week. Reminds me of Cole Holcomb in Washington and that underrated defense. Simon is out snapping both Michael Bennett and Chase Winovich as of late and with the Jets giving up the second-most fantasy points to defensive linemen for the season. Furthermore, Bennett has been suspended for this contest. Simon could have a nice day on Monday night.
Linebacker
Troy Reeder, Los Angeles Rams
Talk about taking advantage of an opportunity. With Clay Matthews out indefinitely due to the broken jaw, the undrafted free agent seems to flourish next to Cory Littleton. He’s played 67% of the snaps and put up double-digit tackles the last two weeks with 15 solo and 24 altogether. Now he gets a very enticing matchup with the Atlanta Falcons that are very generous to opposing linebackers. They have given up 78 total tackles and 3.5 sacks to the position. He continues to climb the IDP charts and is someone to keep an eye on or pickup with dealing with a bye week.
Defensive Back
Quinton Dunbar, Washington Redskins
I mentioned it earlier, but I like the flashes of what the Washington Redskins defense can be and have done so far in 2019. Dunbar even though battled a knee injury early, his last three games he’s seen a nice workload of over 65 plus snaps and while six tackles have only been his season-high so far, he’s caught three interceptions in that time. Now playing tough matchup in the 49ers come Sunday, they like to pass the ball and Jimmy Garoppolo isn’t immune to throwing interceptions.
Sleeper
Jerry Hughes, DL, Buffalo Bills
Hughes recorded 1.5 sacks in week one against the New York Jets and since then has been kind of quiet till after their bye week. He faces the Miami Dolphins Sunday who gives up the third-most sacks per game. Their offensive line is one of the worst in the league and giving up an average 4.6 sacks a game and 23 sacks total, I don’t see that number lowering Sunday. Not to mention surrendering the fifth-most fantasy points to a defensive lineman.
Good luck this week fantasy players! Fill free to follow, comment, or send messages at any time! Go get em’!
