Raiders not cutting Antonio Brown could be the right thing

Michael Pallas | September 6th, 2019

The recent behavior of Antonio Brown has been erratic, to say the least, but the recent news that they won’t release him is the right thing to do depending on the conditions of not cutting him.

On August 11, 2014, the world lost one of the funniest men to ever live. When Robin Williams took his own life, we found out that he was dealing with severe mental health issues, and it opened up the eyes on many to the horrors people go through in their own heads despite what appears to be the opposite. After that, we became more aware, and people started the #MentalHealthAwareness movement.

Many people look at the Vontaze Burfict hit, and now believe that Brown has chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) as a result, and his behavior is their evidence. I am not going to go that far, but I am going to say that if the condition of the Raiders keeping Brown on the team is that he seek mental help, then, by all means, keeping him on the team is the right thing to do.

Whether or not it’s CTE related, we’ve all heard about the former players who had CTE also suffering from mental health issues taking their own lives. Regardless of whether or not it’s CTE or mental health issues not related to CTE, Brown clearly needs help. Sometimes cutting bait from people when they need you the most isn’t the right thing.

What if cutting bait would cause Brown to go off the deep end and take his own life? Is cutting him from the football team worth that risk?

The Raiders, and if the mental health issues are from the Burfict hit, and the NFL needs to do everything they can to help Brown through this before completely cutting him off from football. It is a two-way street, though. It’s incumbent upon Brown to also get the help. It’s clear he needs help, and it’s time to help him find the help he needs.

Week 11 in the NFL brought more chaos, with at least five games on Sunday being decided by a single score. Notably, the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts won their games by just one point. As a result of their performance, the Buffalo Bills have earned the title of our NFL Team of the Week for the second time this season, having previously received this honor in Week 8.
