Today you will be getting a dose of Around the Horn a day earlier. Hope you enjoy the read and we always hope that our advice has or will lend you well throughout the entire Major League Baseball season. Let’s dig right in and break down some players that can help you cash in on this Wednesday, August 14th edition of Around the Horn.
PITCHER
Clayton Kershaw LAD $11,800
We don’t need to get cute at SP1 tonight as it appears that Kershaw is in the best spot amongst starters for the evening slate of games. Kershaw and the Dodgers will draw the lowly Miami Marlins who like most of this season, have been scuffling of late. For the month of August, they have scored just 46 runs(24th), attained a .317 wOBA(21st), and have carried a middle of the pack K rate of 22.5%. Kershaw has faced the Marlins just a single time this season giving up just two hits while striking out 10 in six innings of work while totaling 31.7 DK pts. Career-wise the Marlins are hitting just .142 with a .348 OPS in 112 plate appearances off of Kershaw.
INFIELD
J.D. Davis NYM 3B/OF $4,900
Davis is turning himself into a solid major leaguer and has been a big contributor to the Mets recent run of success. If we take a look at the 26 games to date of the second half of the season, Davis has found another gear. A .378 clip to go along with 5 HRs 13 RBIs and 15 runs scored. Tonight he profiles well against left-handed starter Dallas Keuchel. He carries a .378 wOBA versus left-handed pitching this season.
Amed Rosario NYM SS $4,300
Rosario at this price, given his recent run of success( a .340 average in his last 12 games/not including last night) is a great play. He has a favorable advantage facing a left-hander as he is hitting 15 points higher than when he faces righties, more importantly, he has five of his 12 home runs in 242 fewer plate appearances.
OUTFIELD
Jorge Soler KC $5,100
Soler is quietly having a monster season belting out 35 while driving in 87 with plenty of ball still yet to play. In his previous 10 games, Soler has been ridiculously good as he is getting a hit in almost every other at-bat. A slash line of .452/ .575/ 1.194 during this crazy good run against an average pitcher in Dakota Hudson makes Soler a lock.
Joc Pederson LAD $4,500
Peterson although not trending towards power of late has hit well in his last 10 contests. 9-for-29(.310). Tonight he will be matched up against right-hander Elieser Hernandez. Herandez is 2-4 with a 4.94 ERA with a 1.27 WHIP on the season. Over the course of the last 30 days, he is 1-1 with a nasty 6.48 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP. Left-handed hitters have fared well off of Hernandez, .278 with 6 HRs and a .399 wOBA. Conversely, hitters from the right side are only hitting .206 with a .292 wOBA. Pederson carries a .360 wOBA with 24 HRs in 308 at-bats versus right-handed pitching. If you need to save some dough, pivoting to Matt Beaty at $4,100 is a nice option as well.
