7&7: Your Bartender is Back

John Supowitz | June 25th, 2019

Just because I couldn’t serve you last week doesn’t mean the rules changed. Here are the Seven best hitters of the week.

Mike Trout OF Los Angeles Angels

Although this past week was the homecoming for his teammate Albert Pujols, Trout was the one who felt more at home. The Angels’ ten-game cross-country road trip did not give the two-time MVP any signs of jet lag. He .395 with a .500 OBP and an OPS of 1.244.

DJ LeMahieu 2B New York Yankees

Raise your hand if you had DJ LeMahieu as the most consistent Yankee this season? Stop! Put your hand down because you know you’re lying. DJ has been featured on this segment a few times this season and deservedly so. He batted .435 this week and is now the American League batting leader at .331 and will be a finalist as a starter for the All-Star Game.

Pete Alonso 1B New York Mets

Let’s stay in the big apple with another player in his first season in the show. Alonso is the most notable Met making headlines without having to say NSFW words to reporters. He was this week’s NL home run champ to go along with a league-leading 1.590 OPS and 1.042 SLG

Michael Brantley OF Houston Astros

The 2016 champs are in a little bit of a slump. They lost three of four over the weekend against the Yankees, and seven of their last 10. Brantley, however, is red hot; among the leaders in batting in the American League, he batted .419 in the Astros seven-game road trip.

Manny Machado 3B San Diego Padres

Machado hasn’t had a terrible debut season for the Padres .278 AVG, 16 HR, 47 RBI, but skeptics could say it’s not worth the $300 Million contract. Unfortunately, Machado is not a finalist for the All-Star Game, but his .926 SLG was good enough to lead the National League and his .444 AVG was second in the National League this week.

Juan Soto OF Washington Nationals

As I have mentioned previously, Washington is looking for Soto to replace Harper. Although the Nats are not playing well, that hasn’t stopped Soto. His .476 AVG led the NL this week and 1.425 OPS was second.

Chris Taylor Los Angeles Dodgers

I like being able to mention Dodgers not named Cody Bellinger, there are eight other guys on the field, they deserve just as much attention. Chris “The Tool Man” Taylor had RBI in six of his seven games this week to led the league with 11 as the best team in the league won six straight games this past week.
