Serving Up a Fresh 7&7

John Supowitz | June 11th, 2019

You know the rules: Here are the seven best hitters of the week

Christian Yelich – OF Milwaukee Brewers

Guess who’s back? Back again. Yeli’s back, tell a friend. I felt like I could have put Yelich’s name as an imprint on this article, but it’s been a few weeks. Hit a little bit of a slump; the ten games before June 2nd he just .205. This week he came back big to lead the league in average (.600), OBP (.604), and BABIP (.667).

Jay Bruce – OF Philadelphia Phillies

Maybe it changing from struggling team to a contender, or perhaps he prefers cheesesteaks, but Bruce has a new life in the city of brotherly love. He was hitting just .212 before being traded to the Phillies; he’s currently at .231. In his second game with the club, he would hit two home runs and have six RB, and he would follow that up with home runs the next two games.

Corey Seager – SS Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers were the first team to 45 wins this year and the team to beat again in the National League. Cody Bellinger has been getting most of the attention with his incredible season, but eight others in that lineup are also contributing, including Seager. This week, Seager led the league in doubles (5), and second in avenger (.462).

Hanser Alberto – IF Baltimore Orioles

As I have previously mentioned, the Orioles need all the love they can receive. Whenever there’s an opportunity to give them love, they’re going to get it. This week, Alberto tied for the league lead this week in hits (13) and second in the American League in average (.448).

Marcus Semien – SS Oakland Athletics

And who was Hanser Alberto tied in hits with you asked? Marus Semien of course. He also came in second in runs (7), AND third in RBI (9).

Roberto Perez – C Clevland Indians

Injuries and an underachieving offense have made it an underwhelming season for the Indians. Their downfall and Twins rise has been Clevland trying to salvage the season with trying to get a wildcard spot. They had an impressive week by taking two of three against the first place Twins and the Yankees. Perez was a contributor by going deep in four straight games with a .357 average.

Delino DeShields OF Texas Rangers

Here’s a second generation baseball junior that hasn’t received as much attention as some recent players, but after the week he had, it’s his time. Delino DeSheilds Jr. led the American League this week with a .458 average and a .517 OBP, and his Rangers squad now sit with a two for the second wildcard spot.
