Reaction: Wade, Adebayo lift Heat pass Wizards

Jacari McRae | March 24th, 2019

Here are my four takeaways from the Heat’s 113-108 victory over the Washington Wizards.

Mr. Fourth Quarter

Dwyane Wade came through for the Heat in crunch time. In his last appearance at the Verizon Center, Wade put on a show for the crowd. Wade went 5-for-7 from the field in the fourth quarter as Miami took charge of a game that went back and forth throughout the first three quarters.

Wade scored 11 of his 20 points in the fourth period. He also closed with nine rebounds and five assists.

Bam fills up the boxscore

When the Heat lacked energy early, it was Bam Adebayo who provided a big boost. Bam did it all on Saturday night finishing with 16 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists, and four blocks.

How impressive was Bam’s performance? So impressive that the last player to put his stat line this season was Giannis Antetokounmpo (Anthony Chiang, Miami Herald).

Whiteside limited

For the second time this week, Hassan Whiteside has played five minutes. He only appeared in the first half, with Spo opting to play Kelly Olynyk at the five in the second half with Bam Adebayo resting. The Wizards also went small at times, including playing Jeff Green at center.

With both Kelly Olynyk and Bam Adebayo playing well, not much was needed from the Heat center tonight.

Playoff standings update

With Saturday’s victory over the Wizards, the Heat moved a game ahead of the idle Orlando Magic in the race for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The two teams will face each other on Tuesday, which will be the night of Chris Bosh’s jersey retirement ceremony.

The Heat are also 1.5 games back of the Brooklyn Nets for the seventh spot.

Next up: Miami Heat vs Orlando Magic. Game tips off at 7:30pm ET.
